TornTab
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 August 2026
The short version. TornTab is a local-first app. Your bills, the people in them, and your settings are stored on your device. There are no accounts, no servers of ours, and no analytics. Two things do leave your device, and both are described below: a public exchange-rate lookup, and the one-time Pro purchase.
1What we collect
TornTab has no backend of its own and no user accounts. The bills, amounts, participant names, categories, dates and preferences you enter are stored on your device, and are not sent to us.
2Data stored on your device
The app keeps the following on your device:
- Your bills and their participants — names, shares, who paid — in a local database.
- Your preferences: base currency, language, appearance, and default settings.
- A cached snapshot of currency exchange rates, so conversions work offline.
- A flag recording whether you have unlocked TornTab Pro.
This data is removed when you delete a bill, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
3Contacts permission (optional)
When you tap the contact-picker icon while adding a participant, TornTab asks permission to read your contacts solely so you can pick a name. The chosen name is copied into your bill and stays on your device. Your contacts are not uploaded, stored elsewhere, or shared. If you deny permission the app works normally — you just type names manually.
4Exchange rates
TornTab fetches public currency exchange rates from open.er-api.com, a no-account public rate source. The request carries no personal data or bill information — it simply downloads a list of current rates, which is then cached on your device for offline use. As with any internet request, the rate provider may log standard technical information such as your IP address under its own privacy policy.
5Purchasing TornTab Pro
TornTab Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Buying it involves two parties other than us:
| Who | What they receive |
|---|---|
| Apple the merchant of record |
Your payment and your App Store account details. Apple handles the transaction and reports back that a purchase occurred; your payment details are not passed to us. |
| RevenueCat purchase-management service |
An anonymous, randomly generated app identifier — not your name, email, or Apple ID — the App Store transaction receipt, and basic technical information about the device and app version. This is what lets the app confirm you own Pro and restore it on a new device. |
Neither receives your bills, participant names, or amounts. TornTab does not ask RevenueCat to collect advertising identifiers, and does not link your purchase to a name or email address. RevenueCat's handling of what it receives is covered by its own privacy policy.
6No tracking, analytics, or ads
TornTab contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising, and no tracking. It does not use the device advertising identifier and does not track you across apps or websites.
7Deleting your data
Because your bill data is local, you are in full control: delete individual bills inside the app, or remove everything by uninstalling TornTab. Note that uninstalling does not cancel or refund a Pro purchase — that record is held by Apple, and reinstalling plus tapping Restore brings Pro back.
8Changes to this policy
This policy describes TornTab as currently released. If the app's data practices change — for example if optional cloud sync is added — this policy will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change.
